Join 4×4 Adventure Tours on Salisbury Plain – a mecca for 4×4 enthusiasts – on 23rd 0r 24th November 2024.

(Note – we usually have enough vehicles to run a trip on the Saturday and on the Sunday, booking is available for both days, in  the event that we do not have enough bookings for a group on Saturday and a group on Sunday, we will combine the groups and run a trip on Sunday only)

Set in the heart of Wiltshire and adjacent to the Stonehenge World Heritage site, the plain is the largest military training ground in the UK and is crisscrossed by numerous green lanes.

This classic but challenging route circles the plain, taking in many of the sights including bombed-out tanks and the German Village training area (as featured on Top Gear) and passes close to Stonehenge. The route also allows for some great views across the plain, a unique landscape in southern England.

The lanes are varied in type from gravel tracks and muddy lanes to open grassland with plenty of options available. We also have a backup route should military red flags be flying on the day to avoid disappointment.

Given the nature of the military training ground, which is carefully watched over by range marshals, it is very important to ensure you stay on the legal right of way. Serious consequences exist for drivers and vehicles going off-piste, not least from unexploded munitions.

The plain can be very confusing for the unwary with a myriad of tracks made by military vehicles. Route finding can be somewhat difficult without prior knowledge and GPS. Taking a tour with 4×4 Adventures Tours ensure you will see the best the plain has to offer while staying safe and legal.

This route is suitable for newer vehicles due to the openness of many of the tracks and the lack of hedgerows in many areas.
