We don't visit Derbyshire very often (we have in the past) but we need to help fight for every lane we still have.
If you can, please help by objecting to a proposal by DCC to downgrade a UCR to a bridleway which will effectively close this lane to vehicles. Derbyshire County Council are proposing to record the majority of the UCR at Over Haddon which includes a ford as a Bridleway. DMMO no. X3330, Case no. 37209 refers.
Please object to this proposed change to the definitive map as evidence is available that the route has been regularly used by motor vehicles for many years without challenge. DCC have not given sufficient weight to the status of the route which is an unclassified county road included on the List of Streets. Vehicular ROW's cover less than 2% of the nations access network and our rights to travel such routes are being continually eroded support is needed to maintain the status of this route.
You can either email of write an objection to the following addresses.

Here is one example of a short objection:

Also worth including is "there is a substantial body of user evidence showing historic vehicle use before the status of the route was called into question, and that evidence of its status as a non-classified road has not been fully taken into account in the DCC report"
or my longer version:
Dear Mr McElvaney
I am writing to you to object to the proposed downgrading of the majority of the UCR at Over Haddon which includes a ford as a Bridleway. DMMO no. X3330, Case no. 37209 refers.
While I am not a local resident, I was born and breed in Derbyshire and revisit the county regularly. I feel I have a strong affinity to the area, especially around Buxton and Matlock and I am dismayed by the continuing erosion of the access rights in this area.
There are few enough unsealed routes in the countryside. These routes allow access for ALL users, whether they be on foot, horse, cycle or in a vehicle. By downgrading this route I believe you are unfairly persecuting the people who for one reason or another are unable to ride a horse, cycle or walk or simply wish to view the countryside from the comfort of their motor vehicle. These unsealed road provide an important if limited resource. Please stop reducing this limited network even further.
To implement a change to the status of this route will be a waste of tax payers’ money. Money I believe could be much better spent on the care of those in the community that need help. The route is already a multiuser route accessible to everyone. There is no need to change its status.
I believe that you are being pressured into these continued closures by a small element of the community who wish to unfairly ban all vehicles from the countryside. I object to this proposed change to the definitive map as I believe there is sufficient evidence available to show that the route has been regularly used by motor vehicles for many years without question or challenge. The whole route is clearly an unclassified county road included on the List of Streets and should remain so.
I would like to point out that vehicular ROW's cover less than 2% of the nations access network and our rights to travel such routes are being continually eroded by actions of councils across the country.
Yours sincerely .....
If you wish please add the following - "Please acknowledge receipt of my objection and keep me informed on any further progress with the case" - which might help tie them up with a bit of peperwork!!!!
